Line graphs are one of the many ways to represent data visually. They showcase trends and progress, allowing you to make better decisions.
Even when using Notion, you can create line graphs for whatever purpose. Follow the simple guide below to learn how to make a line graph in Notion.

How to Make a Line Graph in Notion
As of this writing, there is no native feature to allow the making of line graphs in Notion. But you can add the charts from third-party chart creators or Google Sheets to Notion similar to embedded widgets.
But create a database first in Notion to easily add the data needed to make the line graph.
How to Make a Line Graph from Google Sheets to Notion
I would say this is the easier method of the two as you don’t need to create a separate account just to make a line graph. You only need to open a new Sheets document and make a database.
Once done, follow these steps to make a line graph in Sheets and embed it in your Notion workspace.
1. Highlight the table you created.
This ensures that all the table’s values are included in the line graph you’ll create.
2. Select the “Line Graph” option in “Chart.”
One way to do this is to select the “Insert” tab on the menu bar and select the “Chart” option.
Another method is by clicking the “Chart” icon on the taskbar.
Either of these two opens the “Chart editor” pane.
3. Select the “Line Graph” option.
By default, the “Setup” tab is the one opened when the “Chart editor” pane appears. Since we’re making a line graph, click either the regular line graph or smooth line graph options.
A chart pop-out window then appears on the Sheets document but with no values, as you have to select the data for the line graph.
4. Highlight the cells for the “Data range” section.
Do this by clicking the 4-square icon in the “Data range” section. The “Select a data range” pop-out window that appears.
You can manually highlight the rows and columns to be included or click on the “Suggested range.”
Then select “OK.”
5. Select the data for the X-axis of the line graph.
The X-axis is the line graph’s horizontal part. This usually represents time periods or names of things that you’re comparing.
Do this by clicking on the blank gray field and selecting the column that will be used as the X-axis. In this case, I selected “Months.”
6. Tick the “Aggregate” option.
This ensures that all values sharing an identical X-axis key will be aggregated. You can then see the option to set how the series will be aggregated as a box that appears in the “Series” section.
7. Choose how the data will be shown in the line graph
Click the 3-dot icon on the aggregate type in the “Series” section. You’ll then be given an option to show the data in the following ways:
8. Tick the boxes for “Use row 1 as headers.
This is an optional step though. But once selected, it will set the labels from row 1 of the spreadsheet and even create a legend from it.
9. Click the “Customize” tab
You can then open the “Chart style” section and add a background color to the line graph.
You can also add titles for the vertical and horizontal axes by opening the “Chart & axis titles” section. Then type their respective titles.
You can even change the “Line Color,” the “Line dash type,” and “Point Shape” in the “Series” section.
Once done, select the “Close” button.
By now, you should see the completed line graph on the Sheets document.
10. Click the 3-dot icon on the line graph’s upper right corner and select “Publish chart.”
You can only see this 3-dot icon if you hover the cursor on the top right corner of the line graph.
A “Publish to the web” window then opens.
11. Select “Embed” and click “Publish.”
A notification then appears, making you confirm publishing the line graph. Click “OK” to confirm.
12. Copy the embed code and paste it to the Notion page.
You’ll see this embed code in a box above the now-greyed-out “Published” button. Highlight the entire embed code and go back to your Notion workspace.
Then add an “Embed” block and paste the embed code. Then select the “Embed link” button.
You should now see the line graph on your Notion workspace.
How to Make a Line Graph from GRID to Notion
GRID is one of the many third-party chart-making apps that you can connect with Notion to make line graphs.
It allows you to embed dynamic, interactive dashboards, charts, data visualizations, and even calculators in Notion.
But you create a GRID account first and connect it with your Notion workspace to proceed.
1. Connect your GRID account to your Notion workspace.
To do this, click the 3-dot icon on the top right of the Notion app and scroll down to the “Connections” section.
Here you’ll click “Add connections” and find the “GRID” option from the apps featured. If you can’t find it, click the “Manage connections” button instead.
From there, select the “Connect” button for “GRID” and click the “Log in” button. Otherwise, select “Sign up with email” or “Sign up with Google” to create your GRID account.
2. Select “New Document.”
This is the first option that appears on your GRID dashboard.
3. Click “Add existing data.”
This option allows you to create the line graph from a Notion database (ensure that the database has a “Number” property).
Then select the Notion logo in the succeeding pane that opens.
4. Click the “Select pages” button and choose the Notion pages you want GRID to have access to.
Make sure to tick the box on the Notion page where the database is so GRID can detect it later.
Then select the “Allow access” button.
5. Select the source database
You’ll find it in the box where all the databases in your Notion workspace are listed. Clicking the database title will then open the chart editor page.
6. Click the “Line chart” option.
You’ll find this option in the pop-out window on the lower right corner of the chart editor page.
A line chart then appears on the editor page.
7. Edit the entries in “Chart Builder.”
You can choose what data you’ll use for the X-axis and Y-axis of the line graph by selecting the “Down” button in their respective sections.
8. Add a chart title.
Do this by clicking the “More options” button found at the bottom of the “Chart Builder” window. The “Line Chart” pane then opens.
From there, go to the “Chart title” section and type the line graph’s title. It will then appear on the top part of the line graph you created.
You can even connect two points on the line graph if there are blank values. Just go to the “Blank value handling” section and select “Span.”
If you’re done customizing the line graph, select the “Close” button to close the “Line Chart” pane.
9. Click “Embed.”
This is the button you’ll see between “Share” and your “Profile” picture on the upper right corner of the chart editor page.
On the “Embed Options” window, select the “Copy link” button to copy the line graph’s embed code. This is the best option for adding the line graph to tools like Notion.
However, you can also click the “Copy embed” button to copy the line graph’s embed code. Just make sure that the “Scale embed to fit screen” and “Fit contents to full embed width” are ticked.
You’ll find both these options on the “Embed” section of the “Line Chart” pane.
10. Add an embed block in Notion and paste the line graph’s embed code in it.
Then click the “Embed link” button. You should now see the line graph you created from GRID on your Notion workspace.
Making line graphs in Notion helps transform the data you input into a visual narrative. By following those simple steps, you can now show progress, trends, and insights within your Notion workspace.
So, learn how to make a line graph in Notion and master it to make better decisions with this feature.
