Whether you’re working on a Notion page or database, you can export them as editable files to your computer. One file format you can export a Notion page into is a Word document.

But how do you export Notion pages to Word doc? Are the steps similar to how you export them as PDFs?

As of this writing, there is no direct way to export Notion pages to Word doc. Yet, if you know how to export a Notion page as a PDF, you can use this as an alternative method.

Granting that you have already opened the Notion page you want to export to Word doc, follow the next steps below.

1. Click the 3-dot icon.

You’ll find this button on the top right corner of the Notion page after the “Favorites” icon.

A dropdown menu then opens below it.

2. Select “Export.”

This option is found between “Delete” and “Merge with CSV” (this is the option you’ll click to merge databases in Notion) options.

You’ll then see a pop-out window open.

3. Click “Export Format” and select “PDF.”

“Export Format” is the first option found on the pop-out window that appears.

Then on the dropdown menu, select “PDF” which is the first option you’ll find out of the three formats available.

4. Set the formatting settings of the PDF.

Do this by clicking on the “Down” buttons of the following sections on the pop-out window:

  • Include databases to export the Notion page together with the databases found in it
  • Include content to choose whether to include everything on the Notion page or exclude images
  • Page format to select the size of the PDF when opened as a Word document later
  • Scale percent to adjust the scale of the PDF if needed

5. Click the “Export” button.

This is the blue button found on the pop-out window. You should now see the “Exporting” notification appear in the middle of the screen.

Then select what folder the PDF will be saved into. 

For sample purposes, I selected the “Downloads” folder on my computer.

6. Select “Save.”

This will save the PDF version of the Notion page to the folder you selected earlier.

In case the Notion page is exported as a ZIP file, then extract the PDF first and select the folder where it will be saved.

7. Right-click on the Notion page’s PDF file.

8. Select “Open with.”

By default, PDF files are opened with PDF readers downloaded and installed on computers. You can even open them on your web browser.

However, selecting “Open With” allows you to open the PDF file in other formats aside from “PDF.”

A submenu then opens beside it.

9. Click “Word.”

You will then be redirected to Word. 

10.  Select “OK.”

Once Word is opened, a notification window appears, telling you that Word will convert the PDF into an editable Word document. 

You should now see the Notion page you exported as an editable Word document.

And if you want to create a backup, you can always copy the Word document file of the Notion page to Google Docs.

This way, you have easier collaboration with your classmates or colleagues on a project on another program outside of Notion.

If you prefer working on your Notion pages as Word documents, then you can always export them to that format. Though there is no direct way of exporting a Notion page as a Word document, you can save it as a PDF instead and open it in Word.
