One of the perks of using a productivity tool like Notion is the inherent customization features. These include changing text color in Notion workspace.

If you’re new to Notion, changing the text color is simple. And you can use one out of the four methods available — which you’ll know if you keep reading.

How to Change Text Color in Notion (Desktop)

New Notion users think that there is only one way of changing text colors in Notion on a desktop.

But, there are four ways to achieve the feat. This depends on whether you’ll use the long method or the short method in changing text colors.

Method 1: Accessing Built-in Color Options

This method is the default way of changing the text color and text backgrounds in Notion. Use this method when changing the color of specific text within the block. But you can always select an entire text block and use this method.

Granting that you have already opened a page in Notion and changed the fonts of the text in it, follow these steps.

1. Highlight the text.

Simply click the color you’ll use. As soon as you do this, the text color will change from the default color (which is black) to the one you selected.

Method 2: Using the “Slash” Command

Aside from adding widgets, PDFs, or Pinterest boards in Notion, you can also use a slash command to change the text color.

Typing any command in Notion starts with the forward-slash (/) symbol. Then add the command name next. Use this method when changing the text color in an entire block.

1. Place the cursor before the first word or after the last word of the text block.

2. Type the “/[name of color].”

Either of these methods changes the color of the entire text block.

Method 3: Use of the “Cmd/Ctrl + /[name of color]”

This method is another shortcut best used to change the color of the text as you are typing.

But this method can also change the text color in an entire block.

1. Place the cursor before or the first word of the text block or after the last word.

Skip this step if you are ongoing typing the text on your Notion page.

2. Press the “Cmd/Ctrl” key while typing the forward-slash (/) symbol.

Either way, the text color changes to the hue selected earlier.

Method 4: Hex Code Method

Remember how you add superscripts and subscripts in Notion using an inline equation? If you do, one of the ways mentioned there is by typing double “$$” symbols before and after the equation you are adding.

Changing the color of the text in Notion can be achieved with this method, too. But you will have to know the hex code of the said color to enjoy this feature.

You can type “color hex codes” in Google and visit any site featuring color hex codes in them.

Once you find the hex code of the color you want to use, go back to Notion and type this formula in a blank space:

“$$\color{hex code}[your text]$$”

Just make sure that you enclose the hex code in curly brackets “{ }” so that the color is applied to all the letters of the word. No need to press “Enter” as the color is applied to the text after adding the last “$$” after the text.

Since you only need to type this command in a blank space, you can use this method too, when you are on Notion mobile.

Regardless of what method is used in changing the text color in Notion, you can apply the last color you used to a new text by highlighting it before pressing “Ctrl/Cmd + Shift +H.”
