Another way for you to visually represent data is by adding bar graphs. Bar graphs are used for comparing different data to draw conclusions from them.
But how are bar graphs made in Notion?

How to Make a Bar Graph in Notion
Currently, there is no way within the Notion app to make a bar graph. Even if you create a database with all the entries needed for your bar graph, there is no way to add a “Chart” view.
But you can embed a bar graph made from Google Sheets to your Notion workspace like how you can add widgets to it. Another way is to connect your Notion account to chart-making tools to make the bar graph for you.
How to Make a Bar Graph in Notion Using Google Sheets
This method works best for you if you prefer not to connect your Notion account to third-party tools.
The best part is adding it to your workspace like how the best and free Notion widgets are added.
Then follow these steps to make a bar graph in Sheets and embed it in your Notion workspace.
1. Highlight the rows and columns of the table in Google Sheets.
Doing this ensures that all the values in the table will be seen on the bar graph.
2. Click “Chart.”
There are two ways to select this option. One is to click the “Chart” icon on the taskbar. “Insert” > “Chart” can also be selected on the menu bar.
No matter which method you choose, the “Chart editor” pane opens on the right side of the Sheets document.
3. Select “Bar Chart.”
You’ll find this option after clicking the “Down” button of the “Chart type” section in the “Setup” tab.
You’ll see all the “Bar Chart” options between the “Column” and “Pie Chart” sections.
4. Highlight the cells for the “Data range” section.
To do this, click the 4-square icon. To choose a data range, you can either type the cells manually or click on a suggested range.
Then select “OK.”
5. Select the data to be used for the bar graph’s Y-axis.
In most bar graphs, the Y-axis (the vertical line) shows the items that are measured.
But as the bar graph is shown sideways, the X-axis (the one that shows the entries you’re comparing, usually time) now becomes the Y-axis.
Click the blank gray field under “Y-axis” and select the column to be used for the Y-axis. In this case, I selected “Months.”
6. Click how the data that will be shown on the bar graph.
Click the “Down” icon in the “Series” section. You’ll then see the following options for presenting the data on the bar graph.
You can click on any of these options and select one to better present the data.
7. Tick the “Use row 1 as headers” box.
Once you select this option, row 1 of the spreadsheet will be set as labels. Plus, they’ll also be the basis for the legend section of the bar graph.
This is an optional step though, so you can skip this if you prefer adding labels to the axes of the bar graph manually.
8. Select the “Customize” tab and edit the look of your bar graph.
The background color of the bar graph can be set in “Chart style.” You can even make the bar graph appear in 3D by ticking its corresponding box.
Chart and axis titles can also be set by opening the “Chart & axis titles” section.
Even the bar colors can be changed if you prefer not to use the default color assigned to them.
Then select the “Close” button after editing the look of your bar graph. By now the completed line graph should be seen on the Sheets document.
9. Click the 3-dot icon and select the “Publish chart” option.
This 3-dot icon appears only when you hover the cursor on the bar graph’s top right corner. That’s when a dropdown menu appears where the “Publish chart” option is.
The “Publish to the web” window then appears.
10. Select “Embed” and click “Publish.”
By default, “Link” is the page that appears first on the window. But as links don’t display properly on Notion, embedding the bar chart code is the better option.
Confirm the publishing of the line graph by clicking “OK.”
11. Copy the bar graph’s embed code and paste it to Notion.
This embed code is found in a box above the greyed-out “Published” button. Highlight the entire embed code, press “Ctrl/Cmd + C,” and add an embed block to Notion.
Then paste the embed code to it before selecting “Embed link.”
The bar graph from Google Sheets should now appear on your Notion workspace.
How to Make a Bar Graph in Notion Using ChartBase
ChartBase is a tool made by someone else that lets you make bar graphs with Notion. But you can only create one free graph or chart per account.
ChartBase is similar to GRID and lets you make bar graphs and other charts to show data visually. Then, you can embed the chart’s code into Notion like how you add widgets.
But you must create a ChartBase account first and connect it with Notion to continue with this method.
1. Connect your ChartBase account to your Notion workspace.
Select the 3-dot icon on the top right of the Notion app and scroll down to the “Connections” section.
If you’re new to connecting ChartBase with Notion, click “Add Connections.” Then choose “Manage Connections.”
Then look for “ChartBase” in “Discover new connections.”
If you have already added ChartBase as a connection, click “Add connections” and select “ChartBase.”
Then you’ll be asked if you want ChartBase to have access to that page and all its child pages. Select “Confirm.”
Then sign in to your ChartBase account to proceed.
2. Click “Create Chart.”
You’ll see this on your ChartBase account’s dashboard under the “No charts yet” notification.
3. Select the “Bar Chart” option.
This is the very first option you’ll see in the “New Chart” window.
4. Select a database where bar graph values will be sourced from.
After allowing ChartBase to access all your Notion databases, scroll down the “Select a Database” menu.
Click on the name of the database from the options shown. Then select the “Next” button.
If, however, you can’t immediately see the name of the database despite having connected all Notion pages with ChartBase, click “Refresh.”
You can also re-connect your Notion account with ChartBase to make sure all the pages with databases are selected.
Once done, click “Next” to be redirected to the next page, which is the “Chart settings” page.
5. Select the columns that will be used for the X- and Y-axis.
Click on the “Down” buttons of the “X-axis” and Y-axis” sections to select the column that will represent them.
6. Click the “Create Chart” button.
As you’re working with the chart settings of your bar graph, this button is grayed out. Once you have filled all the needed sections, it will turn green.
Then all you have to do is wait for ChartBase to make the bar graph from the data you added. After a few seconds, you’ll see the bar graph displayed on the editor page.
7. Customize the bar graph.
On the left side of the “Chart Editor” page, you’ll see the “Chart Settings” pane.
Here you can change the bar graph’s title in the “Label” section. You can even select whether you’ll use single or multiple colors for the bars of the bar graph.
If you want each bar to have a label, go to “Data labels” and click on the following options: “Value,” “Percentage,” and “None.”
You can even add a background color for the bar graph if you want.
8. Click the “Get Embed Link.”
This is the green button you’ll see before the “Settings” icon at the top right of the chart editor page.
9. Copy the “Public Embed Link” of the bar graph you created.
But to see this, you make sure the toggle for the “Public Embed Link” is activated. From there, click the “Copy” button.
After copying the embed code for the bar graph, you will receive a “Copied” notification.
10. Paste the bar graph’s embed code into the Notion page.
Do this by adding an embed block in the Notion page before pasting the bar graph’s embed code in it. Then select the “Embed Link” button.
You should now see the bar graph from ChartBase on your Notion workspace.
Learning how to create a bar graph in Notion is a skill that brings any data to life. This ultimately makes the data easier to understand and draw conclusions from. Regardless of the method used, you’ll master this skill in no time.
So, keep practicing your bar graph skills in Notion to impress anyone who sees them.
